Make Time For A Cuppa this week and support Dementia UK’s vitally important campaign

The first week of May marks Dementia UK's Time For A Cuppa campaign, which encourages people to bake and have tea parties to raise funds and awareness for families facing dementia.

Dementia affects almost 1,000,000 people in the UK – a number which is expected to double in the next 30 years – so this is a critically important campaign we wholeheartedly support. As one of the leading dementia home care providers in the country, we believe it is essential to raise awareness of this cruel condition and encourage people to recognise its signs and symptoms.

What is dementia?

Dementia is a condition that affects the brain, causing memory loss and a decline in cognitive, social, and emotional functioning. It is a progressive condition which gets worse over time, and there is currently no cure.

Dementia can be an extremely challenging condition for both the person with dementia and their family and friends, and it can have a significant impact on quality of life.

What are the signs and symptoms of dementia?

These can vary depending on the type of dementia a person has. However, some common symptoms include memory loss, difficulty communicating, changes in mood and behaviour, and difficulty with daily tasks.

If you or a loved one are experiencing any of these symptoms, it's essential to seek help from a healthcare professional, as early intervention can improve outcomes. You can find out more in our dementia symptoms blog.

Supporting Dementia UK's Time For A Cuppa campaign

This is an excellent way to support families facing dementia whilst enjoying a slice of cake or two! By having a tea party, you can raise funds for Dementia UK, which provides specialist advice and practical and emotional support to families.

Raising awareness also makes a big difference as it represents an opportunity to start a conversation about dementia and reduce the stigma surrounding the condition. By raising awareness we can improve understanding and promote early intervention, which in turn improves outcomes for people living with dementia and their families.
